Netflix has made no secret of the fact that it wants all the original content that it can get its hands on. The company has seen a considerable amount of success with its original shows but not so much with original movies. If a new report is to be believed, the company might be banking on one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood to improve its track record with original movies.
Netflix is reportedly looking to acquire Will Smith’s next big film. The film is called Bright and it’s being directed by David Ayer, the man behind Suicide Squad. It’s said that the budget of this movie is north of $80 million and it follows a cop, played by Smith, who’s forced into working with an orc partner to locate a powerful wand.
It’s a fiction flick through and through, with the premise being that orc-like creatures live peacefully with humans and that the police has a special unit for dealing with crimes that are linked to magic.
Netflix could bet that Ayer’s latest cop movie would hold a candle to the ones he has worked on in the past. He wrote Training Day and served as both a writer and director on End of Watch, which really is one of the best cop movies that I have ever seen.
