According to Shum’s tweet, “Excited to report we’ve completed SwiftKey acquisition. Welcome to Microsoft @SwiftKey! Let’s do great things together for our customers.” We’re not sure what Microsoft wants with SwiftKey, but last we heard, Microsoft was interested in the artificial intelligence system that powered the keyboard’s predictions.
The good news is that for iOS and Android users, the app will remain as it is. There are no plans to pull it as Microsoft will continue to support the app, so users can rest easy knowing that their favorite keyboard app will not be going anywhere. In fact if anything, Microsoft is expected to integrate some features of SwiftKey into its Word Flow keyboard for Windows 10 Mobile (which incidentally enough will also be making its way onto iOS).
While there are many of keyboard choices out there for mobile users, SwiftKey has been one of the more popular choices, along with the likes of Swype and Fleksy. Like we said, it will be business as usual for the foreseeable future, so for those curious about the keyboard, you can hit up the iTunes App Store or Google Play for the free download.
