Now we have to say that $3,000 is mighty dear but the good news is that if you don’t mind making some compromises, there is an alternative that is a third of the price. Startup company Meta has recently announced their own augmented reality headset called the Meta 2, a headset that is priced at $949 and is expected to be delivered in Q3 2016.
However like we said, there is a small catch and that catch is that the headset will require users to be tethered to a computer. This is versus the HoloLens which has its own built-in computer and can function by itself, however if this “limitation” is fine by you, then you could save yourself a fair bit of money.
Now as to whether or not the Meta 2 will be able to match the HoloLens or outperform it is a different story, but like we said, if you don’t want to spend $3,000, maybe the $949 Meta 2 might be a worthy alternative or a decent compromise, depending on how you look at it. Details about the headset can be found on its website.
