While passwords might have been a good day way back in the day, these days with hacking tools becoming more sophisticated, and with people still being lazy with their choice of passwords, two-factor authentication is probably one of the better ways of ensuring accounts stay secure, and it looks like LastPass wants to help with that.
The company has recently announced the LastPass Authenticator, which is an app for two-factor authentication. For those unfamiliar, two-factor authentication is where in addition to entering the right password, you will need to enter a code which is usually a one-time generated code. This has been used by banks and other services.
So what does LastPass Authenticator do? Basically it adds an extra layer of security to your LastPass account. Whenever you log into LastPass, it will send a code to the app to verify you are who you say you are, after which you will then be logged in. This will come in handy if you use a shared computer, or if you’re the type that always logs out of LastPass when you’re done with it.
To top it off, LastPass Authenticator will also work wherever Google Authenticator is supported. It is also compatible with Android Wear so you can receive codes on your smartwatch. The app is currently available via the iTunes App Store, Google Play, and the Windows Phone Store.
