It Might Be Illegal To Text And Walk Soon

Texting and walking never go down well together, but this does not mean that nothing should be done about it. There has been research that texting while moving around can be dangerous, and another study also pointed to the possibility of accidents happening. This has led to text-walking lanes being introduced in Antwerp, Belgium in the middle of last year, while Nevada mulls over the possibility of making it illegal to text and walk three years back. It looks like New Jersey and other states are also looking to pass legislation so that texting and walking is illegal.

Should this new proposal end up as a kind of law, then folks living in New Jersey might find it difficult at first not to text and walk if that has become a habit for a long time already. In fact, should this law be enforced, then those who break it will be faced with a $50 fine, which is far better than the other option of spending 15 days in the slammer.

New Jersey assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt was the one who introduced a measure that would ban texting while walking. Not only that, pedestrians who are making their way on public roads are discouraged from making use of any kind of electronic communications devices, save for the possibility that these devices were hands-free.
