iOS Users Are Reporting Ghost Emails From 1970

Last month we reported on a weird bug on Apple’s iOS devices in which if you were to set your clock to the 1st of January, 1970, it will cause your phone to brick. Apple has since issued a fix that addresses the problem, but unfortunately it looks like a new bug/glitch has popped up in its place, and once again this seems to have to do with 1970.

According to multiple user reports, it seems that there are a fair number of iPhone and iPad users who are reporting that they are receiving ghost emails from the 1st of January, 1970. These emails apparently have no send, subject, and it also seems that they cannot be deleted as you can see in the screenshots above.

The good news is that these weird emails, apart from being a tad creepy, do not seem to do any harm. It also seems that those who are affected by the glitch are those who have changed timezones recently, such as when traveling, so if you haven’t then we reckon you should not be experiencing any of these issues.

If you are experiencing it, there is a fix and that is you need to quit the Mail app, followed by a restart of your phone by pressing and holding down the Home and Power buttons at the same time until the phone turns off and the glowing Apple logo appears. Users who have tried this have reported that the emails are gone after that.
