MOBAs such as DotA, League of Legends, and Heroes of the Storm have maps with multiple lanes. The idea of multiple lanes is so that it gives players more opportunities to come up with different strategies and also to coordinate teamwork. However Blizzard will be turning that on its head with an upcoming update to Heroes of the Storm.
The company has recently announced that in an upcoming update to the game, they will be introducing a new Lost Cavern map. While new maps aren’t surprising, what’s surprising is that this will be a one lane map, versus the multiple lane maps we’ve seen previously. According to Blizzard, it seems that the idea of Lost Cavern came from players who have been organizing one lane battles themselves.
“We’ve seen that players have been creating one-lane matches on Heroes’ existing maps, so we wanted to create a Battleground that makes things a little easier—and maybe even a little more exciting—for everyone who enjoys these games.” However Blizzard states that Lost Cavern will only be available in custom games, so if you’re interested in ranked matches, don’t expect to find Lost Cavern there.
Apart from being a one lane map, Blizzard has also made some changes to make the games more interesting. “The Hearthstones and Starting Area heals have been removed so that Heroes have no reason to fall back from the fight. Regeneration Orb spawns and brush, meanwhile, have been strategically placed around the lane to keep the fights active and interesting.” Lost Cavern will be released in the game’s next big patch.
