Android N will be the next major build of Android. It is unclear as to what the N will stand for, but there has been some speculation that it could be called Nutella, or at the very least Nutella seems to be a crowd favorite. However recently Google’s SVP of Android Hiroshi Lockheimer took to Twitter to tease its upcoming name.
According to Lockheimer’s tweet, “Received a tip from a source familiar with the matter that Nori is not only healthy but also a very tasty treat.” He then linked to a Wikipedia article about Nori. For those who are unfamiliar with Nori, it is basically seaweed and can be typically found in Japanese cuisine, along with several other Asian fares.
That being said, we believe that Lockheimer is probably just teasing and trolling the Android community. After all Android 7.0 “Seaweed” doesn’t sound particularly fun, although we have to admit that Nori is pretty tasty. In any case given how long Google takes to reveal their Android build names, we probably won’t find out for a while.
However Google I/O 2016 is taking place in the later part of May, so perhaps we will find out more about Android N then. In the meantime, a recent report has revealed some upcoming changes to the operating system, namely in its notification shade.
