Google Reportedly Making An Amazon Echo Rival

Amazon Echo has seen considerable success since it came out about a year ago. Amazon recently expanded the product lineup by launching a couple of new Echo products. Apparently Google has been following the Echo’s progress closely and it’s now reportedly working on its very own Echo rival. It’s said to be a similar product so it might be a smart speaker with a personal digital assistant built in.

The Information reports that there’s a “secret Google project to create a competitor to Amazon’s echo,” but the report doesn’t provide any details about the alleged product’s features or specifications. It doesn’t even say when it might arrive or how much it would cost when it does arrive.

The scribe does mention that Nest has requested to be a part of this project but it was apparently turned away by the Google team that’s leading the project. It’s unclear why Nest, which Google acquired some time ago, was turned away but it’s no secret that the list of products in Nest’s portfolio could use some new additions.

No comment from Google on this story yet so even though the scribe has a good track record, take this with a grain of salt for now, or until there’s more evidence to suggest that Google is indeed working on an Amazon Echo rival.
