Google Photos For iOS Updated With Live Photos Support

Google Photos is a great app if you’re looking for a place to backup your photos, and the best part is that if you don’t mind keeping your photos below the 16MP resolution, Google Photos will even back it up for free. That being said, Google Photos will back up your regular photos, but what about iOS users who might want to backup Live Photos as well?

The good news is that according to a recent tweet by Google, they have announced that Google Photos for iOS has recently received an update that will now be able to backup your Live Photos as well. This means that users won’t have to worry about having to backup their Live Photos separate from the rest of their photos, or opt to use another cloud service like iCloud just to back Live Photos.

For those unfamiliar, Live Photos is a feature exclusive to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Instead of just snapping a regular photo, what happens is that your camera will start snapping photos before and after you press the shutter, so the end result is a photo that will be able to provide a bit more context. It also has the ability to capture sound, so it’s almost like a photo and a video, a hybrid if you will.

In addition to the Live Photos backup, the update will also improve the app’s navigation to make it more efficient when browsing through its menu. It also reduces the cache usage to prevent itself from eating up too much storage, and there is also support for the iPad’s Split View and iPad Pro support. The update can be found via the iTunes App Store.
