Facebook Lite Updated With Video Playback Support

Facebook Lite was launched last year and for those unfamiliar with the app, basically this version of Facebook is designed for users in emerging markets where internet speeds might not be as fast compared to developed markets. Ultimately it offers a very striped down version of Facebook and offers pretty much only core functionality, which we guess is good enough.

However the good news is that Facebook has recently issued an update to the app in which it will now offer up video playback support. Given that videos tend to be larger files than images, what Facebook has said they have done is when users click on a video, it will load the video in the background and notify them when it is ready to play.

This allows the user to keep browsing the rest of Facebook while waiting for the video to load, versus the current setup on mobile in which users can’t do anything else while the video is loading, but then again with faster internet this shouldn’t really be much of an issue. In addition to video support, the updated app will allow users to pinch on pictures to zoom in and out of them.

They are also able to see emojis in posts and messages, and have also gained the ability to upload multiple photos at once. If you’d like to check out the app, you will be able to find it for download via the Google Play Store.
