everquest-landmarkThere are many different MMORPGs out there that gamers can choose from, but when it comes to the longer-running titles, we’re probably looking at a handful like Ultima Online, World of Warcraft, and the EverQuest franchise, which has not only spawned several sequels, but also countless expansions.

A new EverQuest title was in the works called EverQuest Next and was meant to be the latest successor in the franchise, but unfortunately its developer Daybreak Game Company has decided to cancel the game, with one of the reasons behind the cancellation being that the game just did not end up being as fun as they had hoped.

According to the studio’s president Russell Shanks, “Unfortunately, as we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn’t fun. We know you have high standards when it comes to Norrath and we do too. In final review, we had to face the fact that EverQuest Next would not meet the expectations we – and all of you – have for the worlds of Norrath.”

However we should note that this is only the cancellation of EverQuest Next, and that as far as EverQuest and EverQuest II are concerned, they will remain as they are and we should be able to expect new content from time to time. Last we checked, both games received their latest expansion back in November 2015.
