Before Android 5.0 Lollipop came around, tabs that were opened by the browser’s users would then be closed in the app by default. With the advent of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the browser tabs would then be transferred over to the “Recent Apps”, which is also known as the “Overview menu.” Even though that proved to be the default setting, users had the choice of turning off “Merge tabs and apps” in Chrome’s settings menu. In the latest version of Chrome, it arrives with the “Merge tabs and apps” setting off by default.
Isn’t that good news for those who like things to be that way? This means you can close browser’s tabs from the Chrome app, but it also does not mean that the other method is unavailable, since you can always head into the browser’s settings and tinker around if you so desire. The change will only appear for folks who install the Chrome browser from the Google Play Store, or are setting up a new smartphone. Should you happen to be running on an older version of Chrome on your device and perform a simple update, then you would not receive the new default position.
