China Delegates Banned From Using Selfie Sticks At Political Meetings

Selfie sticks have proven themselves to be all the rage regardless of where you are in the world, and tourists are definitely one of the major users of selfie sticks. However, snapping selfies can also be pretty risky to your health, and it looks like it is also a threat to your political career – at least over in China, where delegates who will be attending the major annual political meetings in Beijing have been banned from making use of selfie sticks there.

At the previous edition of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), selfie sticks were extremely popular, and it did not matter if you were a politician, a journalist, or a business leader, you still went ahead to have your picture snapped with the other delegates as part of a memory.

The authorities are obviously not too pleased with that, and thus have issued a ban on selfie sticks from sessions in the Great Hall of the People. The reason? Selfie sticks are distracting, as delegates instead remain focused on their work rather than capturing mugshots of themselves. CPPCC spokesman Zhang Jing’an said, “The biggest task for delegates here is to perform their duties.” Do you think that this is a reasonable restriction?
