As Overwatch was designed to be a competitive multiplayer game, safe to say that it’s a bit hard to expound on its background story, kind of like how games such as Counter-Strike doesn’t even have a story, but it’s still fun to play all the same. That being said, Blizzard does plan on giving Overwatch a bit of lore and as we mentioned before, this will be accomplished through animated shorts and comics.

The good news is that if you were looking forward to learning more about the Overwatch universe, you’re in luck because Blizzard has just released their first animated short for the game. This short is about one of the characters, Winston, and why he had reactivated the outlawed Overwatch program.

The animated short runs for about 8 minutes so it is pretty substantial, not to mention the quality is amazing. Blizzard’s cinematic trailers have always been beautifully done, but we reckon that with Overwatch Blizzard has certainly taken things to the next level, like it could have easily passed off as a Pixar animated movie.

Overwatch has been set for a release on the 24th of May and will be available on both consoles and the PC. The game is currently up for pre-order via Blizzard’s website for $60.
