Critics haven’t penned the best of reviews for Batman v Superman, one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2016, but that hasn’t stopped people from going out and watching it on the big screen. Batman v Superman has already broken some box office records and is well on its way to break some more. Just imagine what would have happened if the critics were actually in agreement about the movie being fantastic.
Advance ticket sales for Batman v Superman were already higher than they were for Deadpool, which set some box office records of its own, so clearly there was a hint that this movie would do good at the box office.
For its Thursday night opening, the film brought in $27.7 million domestically. The Thursday night opening wasn’t able to beat the all-time Thursday debut record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens which raked in $57 million on December 17th, 2015.
Batman v Superman is estimated to have brought in $82 million on Friday in the country, beating Furious 7’s $67.4 million, breaking its record. The new movie is also set to break a record for full weekend domestic earnings currently held by The Hunger Games at $152.5 million, it’s expected to take in $170 million during the first weekend.
It may event beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’s $169.2 million to become the best opening of all time for Warner Bros.
