Apple unveiled the iOS 9.3 update at its event on March 21st, the company said that this is the biggest “dot” update that it has ever come out with. The release didn’t go as smoothly as it would have wanted as users encountered several bugs, one of which caused web links to crash on devices updated to iOS 9.3. Apple has acknowledged the issue and has promised in a statement that it’s going to send out a fix for this bug “soon.”
The bug is affecting an iOS 9 feature called Universal Links. The feature enables third-party app developers to have select domain names directly open links to their apps, so links tapped in apps like Mail, Safari and Messages take users directly to the corresponding iOS app.
Many users have complained that after updating their device to iOS 9.3 the feature no longer works, and that clicking on a universal link within a native iOS app like Safari makes it hang and ultimately crashes the app. As you can imagine it’s proving to be a headache for users.
“We are aware of this issue, and we will release a fix in a software update soon,” Apple confirmed in a statement provided to TechCrunch, hopefully, it won’t take long to release this update to put users out of their misery.
