That being said, there is a new rumor out of Korea which has suggested that Apple and Samsung Display have apparently signed a contract (via The Verge) in which the latter will be supplying Apple with 60,000 flexible OLED panels per month. If anything, this seems to corroborate a report from last year in which it was rumored that both LG and Samsung were in talks with Apple and were apparently close to landing a deal.
This report seemingly “confirms” it as it would indicate that Samsung was the one that landed the deal. However Samsung isn’t expected to be alone in supplying OLED panels. The report claims that other companies such as LG Display, Japan Display, and even Foxconn are slated to be Apple’s secondary supplier, which we guess makes sense just in case anything were to go wrong.
Safe to say that this report should be best taken with a grain of salt for now, but if they are true, the arrival of OLED iPhones (a welcome change) will be sooner than we think.
