Android 6.0 Marshmallow Now Installed On 2.3% Of Android Devices

While the latest version of iOS is installed on more than 50% of iOS devices, it seems that the latest build of Android has been a bit slow in gaining momentum. Last month we checked and the numbers were at 1.2% of all Android devices, although we suppose the upside is that about a month later, those numbers have since increased by almost double to 2.3%.

According to the numbers from Google’s Android Developers Dashboard, Android 6.0 Marshmallow has now been installed on 2.3% of all Android devices, or at least on all the Android devices that have visited or accessed the Google Play Store. Note that there are probably quite a few Android devices that aren’t authorized or officially licensed, so this doesn’t paint the complete picture, but it should still give us a good idea of the Android ecosystem.

The leap to 2.3% is pretty big although overall it still represents a fraction of the Android pie. As it stands, it seems that Android 5.x Lollipop remains the most popular build with a little over 35% in installs, while Android 4.4 KitKat comes in second with 34.3%. In fact if anything, both builds have swapped places as just last month, KitKat was in the lead while Lollipop came in second.

This month’s figures also shows that Android Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich have declined in their installs, while Froyo appears to still be clinging on at 0.1%.
