Things certainly change a whole lot in the disruptive industry of technology, and this certainly translates to the fact that one must always look for ways to break new ground or risk being left behind. After all, who would have thought that BlackBerry would end up where it is today despite dominating much of the handset market in the past? TD Securities’ analyst Daniel Chan thinks that the company should just focus on software in order to remain profitable and ditch the hardware business.
After all, the company has done the unthinkable already by rolling out a smartphone that runs on Android – the BlackBerry Priv, and failing to deliver an entry level Android-powered device at Mobile World Congress in the previous month, the latter could very well be the sign that the end is nigh where the hardware business is concerned.
Not only that, Facebook support for BlackBerry 10 will end later this week, and WhatsApp is set to follow in Facebook’s footsteps some time down the road. With no new BlackBerry 10 devices in the works, TD Securities’ Chan has faith that dropping out of the hardware race totally would be the ideal move in order for them to focus on being an enterprise software company. What do you think?
