It was reported earlier this week that Amazon has quietly ended encryption support for its devices that are powered by its Fire OS platform, the devices include Fire tablets and the Amazon Fire Phone. The company rolled out an update for these devices which quietly removed encryption support and this led to a backlash from users which has made Amazon reconsider. Amazon has now confirmed that it’s going to bring back encryption via a future update.

Amazon justified the decision to remove support for encryption by mentioning that its data showed that its users were rarely taking advantage of encryption support. The backlash makes it clear that users want to have that option available to them regardless of whether or not they use it.

The company has decided that it’s going to let its users down. Amazon has confirmed that it’s going to return encryption support to Fire OS devices through a future update.

However, Amazon is yet to reveal when this future update is going to arrive, so it could take a couple of weeks or a couple of months, we don’t really know for sure at this point in time. All we know is that encryption support will return to Fire OS-powered devices in due time.
