amazon-echo-tap-6

Amazon Echo has been around for a while now and it has performed very nicely. The company didn’t really say what was next for this product until today when it launched a couple of new Echo-branded products. There’s the Echo Dot and the Tap. The latter is basically a very good portable speaker with Amazon’s personal digital assistant Alexa inside.

The company says that its primary goal with the Tap was to develop a great Bluetooth speaker that was portable and robust, so it works just as well on your mantle as it does on the beach. It doesn’t need to be always plugged in like the Echo or the Echo Dot.

Amazon Tap can be charged with the included dock or via microUSB. The company says that it’s going to provide up to nine hours of playback on a single charge aside from three weeks of standby time.

The speaker pushes Dolby through dual 1.5 inch drivers, controls for the audio are on the top of the device. It does have Alexa built-in so users have access to all of the digital assistant’s features however unlike on the other two Echo devices, Alexa isn’t always listening here so as to conserve battery. To use Alexa you have to trigger it manually by pressing a button on the speaker.

Amazon Tap is available for pre-order starting today for $129.99. It’s going to be available for purchase by the end of this month.
