Enable Adoptable Storage On The Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge

Last month the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets were announced, and one of the features that users were probably pretty pleased about was the return of the microSD card slot, a feature missing from the Galaxy S6. However the bad news was that while it does support microSD, Adoptable Storage will not be supported.

The good news is that the feature is still in the operating system, it’s just that Samsung has removed the UI elements that would allow users to gain access to it. This means that if you are willing, the folks at MoDaCo have put up some instructions on their website which will allow users to enable Adoptable Storage on their Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge handset.

According to their post, “The S7s do include a feature where you can move apps to SD card, but it’s not quite the same. The good news? You can enable the feature using ADB and it seems to work great, including in hybrid (‘mixed’) mode. In order to set adoptable storage up, you will need a computer with working ‘adb’ and, of course, a microSD card in your phone, the faster the better.”

The process does not appear to be particularly long, but if you’re not particularly technical it might be a little complex. However it pretty straightforward so if you’d like to try it for yourself, check out the instructions, but proceed at your own risk.
