However it seems there is a theory floating out there that suggests how Apple could introduce a 5.8-inch iPhone, but at the same time keep its size roughly the same as the 5.5-inch iPhone. This theory comes from DisplayMate’s Ray Soneira (via MacRumors) who suggests that this can be achieved simply by changing the display’s aspect ratio and by wrapping the extra screen real estate around the sides of the phone, similar to what Samsung has done with the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Now you might be thinking that this approach would be an outright copy of Samsung, but in reality, Apple has actually toyed with the idea of phones with wraparound displays before. There have been patents filed as far back as 2011 which shows Apple coming up with various shapes in which such a device could be based on.
As to what Apple could use the side displays for, we suppose it could be similar to the Samsung Edge phones in which extra menus could be presented, virtual buttons, notification delivery, and more. However since this is just a theory, take it with a grain of salt, but how does an idea of an iPhone with a wraparound display sound to you guys?
