In a note from DigiTimes obtained by Motley Fool (via Cult of Mac), it seems that there are rumblings that Apple could introduce a 5.8-inch iPhone as early as 2017, or possibly in 2018. Like we said, the 5.5-inch iPhone is already viewed by some as too big, so we can only imagine how much more impractical it will get at 5.8-inches.
Interestingly enough 2017/2018 is also when Apple is rumored to finally make the switch over to OLED screens, a nice change of pace considering that so far the company has been relying on LCD, which while perfectly fine, could stand to use an upgrade. That being said, Apple’s release patterns usually involve keeping a phone’s design for 2 years before moving on.
If Apple were to introduce a 5.8-inch model in 2017, it would certainly break the pattern, but then again it is Apple’s prerogative to do as they please. However we should also point out that DigiTimes hasn’t exactly had the best track record with Apple-related rumors, so it’s best to take it with a grain of salt, but how does the idea of a 5.8-inch iPhone sound to you guys?
