Chevrolet showed off a couple of new cars that stole the show at the New York Auto Show. The 2017 Camaro ZL1 had the spotlight for all the right reasons but what impressed most people was the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible. It may not have precisely the same performance edge as the hardtop but there will be many who buy the car based on the way it looks, and it looks fantastic if I do say so myself.
The ZL1 is powered by a supercharged LT4 6.2L V-8 with special intake and exhaust systems tailored just for the Camaro. It provides an estimated 640 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. The power pack is hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission, buyers can also choose an all-new paddle-shift 10-speed automatic.
Chevrolet says that the ZL1 convertible provides “comparable performance” to the coupe model and that there are only a “few minor structural differences” which separate the hardtop from the convertible.
Since it’s a convertible, it’s going to weigh a bit more as opposed to the coupe and that will have a minor impact on the performance as well but Chevrolet seems convinced that the differences aren’t that major so driving enthusiasts should feel just as home in the convertible version.
Chevrolet ZL1 convertible is slated to hit the roads in early 2017.
