Debate aside, it seems that not many people are happy with the proposed changes, with many users tweeting “#RIPInstagram” as a sign of protest. However it seems that in addition to that, a Change.org petition has since been launched in which at this time of posting, about 140,000 users are urging Instagram to keep its feed chronological.
According to the petition, it seems that they believe that changing the way the feed is displayed will have a huge impact (in a bad way) on small businesses and artists. “We believe an algorithm-based feed will be detrimental to small business owners and artists who use this platform to communicate their products and services. Not to mention the communities that have been built within Instagram.”
Instagram has stated before that they are open to listening to what the community has to say, but whether or not they will act on it remains to be seen. We suppose at the very least we’re hoping that Instagram will follow in Twitter’s footsteps and make it an option.
