Just in time for Super Bowl Sunday, the Wilson X Connected Football will come with its fair share of sensors that are capable of measuring statistics such as distance, speed, spiral efficiency and spin rate. It is also smart enough to figure out if it was dropped – or caught, and all relevant data will be sent to a companion app via Bluetooth.
One must say that Wilson has done a good job to let the X Connected Football resemble and feel like the actual thing, and within the ball lies an accelerometer, a Bluetooth radio, as well as a processor, all of them running on a very low power battery which should have an average battery life of two years. So far, it does not look as though the battery is replaceable, but maybe things will change in the future. There is no word on pricing, but since their smart basketball is close to $200, then the same can be said for the X Connected Football when it arrives.
