Rage quitting is the practice of leaving a game just as you’re about to lose it. Players used to do it all the time in games like Counter-Strike, DotA, StarCraft and many more. This practice is heavily frowned upon today and developers have come up with ways to punish players who indulge in this behavior. Capcom didn’t punish Street Fighter 5 rage quitters initially but it did say that the issue will be addressed. “Severe” punishment will be meted out to players who rage quit in Street Fighter 5.
It’s not uncommon for players to rage quit in Street Fighter 5, leave a match as they’re about to lose, it particularly hurts for the other player because the match isn’t even registered. This means that no loss is counted for the person who quits and no win is counter for the person who’s on the verge of winning.
Players indulge in this behavior to retain their League Points and win streaks. Capcom has said that it’s working on a permanent solution to this issue and that it’s going to start taking direct action against such players starting next week.
“Severe” punishment is promised for the worst offenders, though it’s yet to be revealed precisely how these players will be punished, Capcom is going to follow up with more details about this in the coming week.
In the meantime, it’s asking players to record every instance of rage quitting they encounter, the best way to do that is use the SHARE function on PlayStation 4 after the match has ended, however, Capcom will entertain any video evidence such as local recordings, Twitch archives, etc.
