In an interview with VentureBeat, Blizzard’s senior vice president and co-founder Frank Pearce made some interesting comments about mobile titles. According to Pearce, titles like Overwatch and StarCraft could make for some potential mobile games. “If you look at Overwatch, if you look at StarCraft, we have multiple franchises that would lend themselves to that concept.”
He goes on to add that the reason why is because players these days are looking for something quick and fun, and not necessarily long and drawn out matches. “If we were going to continue to evaluate experiences in real-time strategy, I think we’d have to figure out what that means to the current player space. [StarCraft II expansion] Legacy of the Void is great. [But] I don’t think that people want to sit down and play 45 minute missions any more. I think that space might need some reinventing.”
This might also explain why games like Heroes of the Storm are focused on quick matches, as opposed to other MOBAs like DotA where a single match could last 40 minutes to an hour. That being said, this is just Pearce’s opinion but whether or not Blizzard actually moves forward and starts creating StarCraft games for mobile is a different story, but what do you guys think of the idea? Yay or nay?
