Integrations are a great way to push music streaming services and Spotify has been doing a lot of those recently. One of the things people like to do most when they’re working out, running particularly, is listen to music so it makes all the sense in the world to integrate a music streaming service with an app that helps you track runs. That’s precisely what Spotify has done.
Last year the streaming service improved the Spotify Running playlists to offer an improved experience to runners. It aimed to make Spotify Running playlists the best companion for people who like to run.
The playlists bring up the best music based on the users’ listening history and genre preferences while also running original compositions from popular DJs and composers. The feature taps into the sensors of the smartphone to detect the pace at which the user is running to play tracks that match the tempo.
This integration with Runkeeper is basically an extension of that feature. Users can listen to Spotify now while seamlessly tracking their run in the Runkeeper app. Track records from the app with tailored Spotify playlists provide the beat-matched music from the streaming service.
Spotify can now be selected as the source for music in the Runkeeper app, this enables the Spotify Running experience, a Running category will then be available in the Browse menu to provide access to music.
Spotify and Runkeeper integration is available to both Premium and Free users of the service on iOS, the Android app will get this feature in the near future.
