Sony Xperia Ear Puts An AI Assistant In Your Ear

Sony announced that they would be at MWC and we had to admit that given the lack of rumors regarding the Sony Xperia Z6, what could the company announce? We learnt earlier today that one of Sony’s announcements would be the “Smart Ear” accessory, and sure enough Sony did not disappoint.

The company has officially taken the wraps off the device which they are officially calling the Sony Xperia Ear. Now while there might have been some comparisons drawn up regarding its similarities to the Moto Hint, there is more to the Xperia Ear than meets the eye, namely the fact that this is more than your standard Bluetooth earpiece.

For starters, the Xperia Ear comes with a built-in proximity sensor that can tell when it is in the user’s ear, which in turn will inform the Android phone that it is paired with. It can also work with voice commands where users can ask it to perform internet searches, navigation, and dictation. It can also prompt users for location and time-based events, missed calls, news, and just notifications in general.

Unfortunately its battery life is rather short at an estimated time of 3.5 hours of active use. However Sony believes that this should be enough for most folks, and to be fair we guess you won’t be using it all the time, so perhaps 3.5 hours could get you through the day. There will be an optional carrying carrying case that will charge the device on the go if you do need more battery life. No word on pricing, but Sony did state that they are planning on releasing it in the summer.
