Rat Accompanies Delivered Online Grocery Purchase

rat-tescoWhile online shopping has been touted to be the future, especially for busy families who have no time to run down to the grocery store, one should also be wary of one’s purchases. There were instances of a man buying a PS4 from Walmart only to find two bags of rocks within, while another person picked up a PS4 from the dubious Craigslist, discovering that there were two towels within instead. As for this family over in the UK, their online shopping experience turned sour upon receiving their food delivery from Tesco, as they found a rat inside the shopping crate – and said rat was still alive and well!

19-year-old Beckie Richardson’s eagle eyes spotted this wriggling pest making its way around the Smarties, and her mom, Sue Richardson, shared, “My daughter was so traumatised by it that she had a panic attack and fell on the floor and rather than getting away from the rat, I had to look after her. I have been shopping at Tesco for years and never had a problem but I’ll never go back to them after this.”

It remains to be seen how the rat ended up in the crate, but it was not certainly part of a deal from Tesco. Chances are, it made its way to the crate after it was left outside by the driver if one were to be impartial to the entire situation. A Tesco spokesperson had this to say, “We take the cleanliness of our stores and delivery vehicles extremely seriously so were concerned to hear of the issue at our Romford Gallows Corner store. Although we’re confident this is an isolated incident, we’ve taken immediate action including working with a pest control company and jet washing the area where we store our online deliveries. We have visited and apologised to Mrs Richardson, delivered a replacement tray of groceries and offered her some flowers as a gesture of goodwill.”
