Sony launched the PlayStation Vita TV back in 2013. The device is a home console spin-off of the PlayStation Vita handheld console and it can also be hooked up to the PlayStation 4 for access via Remote Play. The device hasn’t done well on Sony’s home turf which is why the company has decided to discontinue PlayStation Vita TV shipments in Japan.
The label “出荷完了” has been added to the official Japanese listing of the PlayStation Vita TV, it means “End of Shipments,” thus confirming that Sony has no plans of shipping any more units of this device in Japan. This decision applies to the standalone PS Vita TV and the Value Pack which comes with a memory card and DualShock 3 controller.
According to reports, the product never really took off in Japan, lifetime sales since its launch in November 2013 clocked in at just over 185,000 units. This figure was provided by Media Create on January 3rd and it has not provided updated numbers probably because it was aware of the impending discontinuation of shipments.
It’s unclear at this point in time if Sony is going to discontinue this product, known as PlayStation TV in the west, in other markets as well. Sony has not yet commented on this.
