Now this is certainly a rather short lived device – it looks like the PlayStation TV from Sony has been discontinued in the US as well as in Europe, just more than a year after shipments to those two markets kicked off. It looks as though this product, known as the PlayStation Vita TV in the Land of the Rising Sun has also been discontinued as reported yesterday. Bummer!
A representative for the Japanese company has confirmed to GameSpot that shipments for the PlayStation TV has already stopped at the end of last year, where the Americas and Europe are concerned. Shipments to Asia will continue for the moment, but as to how much longer that will happen, it remains to be seen.
The spokesperson mentioned, “PlayStation TV shipments were terminated at the end of 2015 in SCEA and SCEE. Shipment is still continuing in SCEAsia (as of the end of February, 2016), and we have nothing to announce regarding the timing of termination. PS Store for PlayStation TV will continue to be accessible, and PlayStation TV-related information will continue to be updated. In terms of applications/service for PlayStation TV, we will make further communications to users as necessary.”
For those who would want a piece of tech history the once $99 PlayStation TV will now cost for less than half the price at Amazon.
