Thankfully Google thinks so as well, and according to reports, an update to Google Play Music will be changing that. The report claims that Play Music will now be able to display YouTube videos in its search results. This means that in addition to finding the link to the song, users also have the option of playing its music video instead, all from the same app without having to switch platforms and whatnot.
Unfortunately as pointed out by 9to5Google, the video player used in the update appears to be very rudimentary at best. Users only have the option of changing video quality and showing captions, nothing more, so if you were hoping for a more “full” experience like you would get from YouTube, you might be disappointed.
It also seems that the UI for the video player is not following Android’s Material Design language which is rather odd, but hopefully this is something Google will address in the future. That being said, it is still extremely functional so if you want a quick fix or video while browsing for songs, this should do the trick.
