Have you ever tried to pay for metered parking, only to realize that you do not have enough change on you? Or for some reason the machine keeps rejecting the coins you try and put into it? The good news is that if you are living in New York City, Mayor de Blasio has announced that soon drivers will be able to pay for metered parking via their smartphones.
How this will work is through an app that drivers can download and then attach their credit card to it. They then enter their license plate number and the muni meter number and they will be able to pay for it on the spot. This also means that we don’t need to start digging the backseats of our cars for loose change, or run back to the meter when time is expiring as drivers will be able to pay for their parking remotely.
According to de Blasio, “No more fumbling for change or scrambling to the meter to beat a ticket. This is a 21st century upgrade that is going to make parking a lot more convenient.” This setup has actually be tried out at 321 parking space in the Belmont section of the Bronx, but it is now expected to expand to all 13,700 parking meters across New York City’s five boroughs.
