New Canon Mirrorless Cameras Coming In 2016

canon_eos_m10_1When it comes to mirrorless cameras, Canon’s name isn’t really one that’s brought up often, and we can’t say we’re surprised. While the company has created several mirrorless cameras in the past, most of the time it felt like they did it for the sake of having a mirrorless camera. This is versus their DSLRs which feel like they’ve had more effort and thought put into it.

That being said, it seems that Canon has plans to renew their mirrorless camera efforts. According to an interview with Ascii.jp (as translated and edited by CanonWatch), Canon manager Yagi Koichi was quoted as saying that the company has plans to introduce new mirrorless cameras this year, and that they are hoping to go up in rank in the mirrorless market.

According to the machine translated text, “At present [we are working on] new products, but [we can not] mention, the third quarter in 2016, towards the fourth quarter and that the mirror-less market is forecast to grow, Canon’s share of the mirror-less camera market [in the last] two years ago [was] the 4. position, we want to aim at the 3. position.”

We’re not sure what Canon will be able to bring to the table that might allow them to rise in ranks. We already have Sony’s full frame mirrorless cameras, not to forget Fujifilm recently announced the X-Pro2 (and with the X-T2 rumored to be on its way), so if Canon does want to displace the competition, they definitely have their work cut out for them.
