Humanity at its best does bring some heart-warming experiences, while at its worst, the depravities cannot be mentioned. The online world can be a very cruel and unforgiving one, as this one mom discovered to her horror. Trolls had taken a photo of her 4-year old son Jameson who has a craniofacial disorder, and turned said photo into a painfully cruel meme of making pug comparisons with Jameson. Like any other mother would, Alice Ann Meyer decided to rally her online community to have this meme taken down, saying, “It is absurd to me that it will ever be OK to target children to degrade and humiliate them.”
She continued over in her blog post, “What compels a person to do such a thing I will never understand. There is no way for me to know who did this, but for every post and share of this meme I will do everything in my power to get it taken down.”
Meyer came across this meme on a Facebook page, and said meme had already gone through close to 3,000 shares – and in the process, picked up more than 5,000 likes, not to mention making its way to other channels such as Twitter and Instagram as well.
Meyer has since reported the stolen image to the relevant social media sites in order to have them removed – and she hopes that something like this will not happen again, especially to children and little ones who do not exactly fit the idea of what many think is the norm on the outside, but within remains every much a human being like you and I. While most memes are funny and good natured, the door remains open for those who have malicious intent to churn out cruel memes like this.
