Microsoft Will Make Crossbuy A Platform Feature For Xbox

The ability to crossbuy titles has long been available to PlayStation home and handheld console owners and Microsoft is intent on bringing it to its gaming platform as well. The company has confirmed that it intends to make crossbuy a platform feature for Xbox, and since Microsoft doesn’t make handheld consoles, this means that buying a title on the Xbox One would get you a Windows copy as well.

Microsoft has taken a step in the right direction with Quantum Break. It confirmed that customers who pre-order a copy of Quantum Break for Xbox One are also going to receive the Windows 10 copy at no extra charge.

Xbox head Phil Spencer was recently asked on Twitter if we can eventually see third-party games on the crossbuy list as well or whether this feature will just be limited to first-party releases. Spencer replied in the affirmative, saying that “We’ll make it a platform feature,” adding that “We think it’s good for gamers.”

It doesn’t get more official than this. The head of Xbox is saying that Microsoft does want to make crossbuy a platform feature for Xbox and he’s right in saying that it’s good for games, they will appreciate the step that Microsoft is taking here. We can only hope that this happens sooner rather than later, but then again, as they say, good things come to those who wait.
