Perhaps so, but according to Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, he believes that virtual reality still has a very, very long way to go before it hits mass market. In fact according to Zuckerberg, he thinks it will take 10 years before the technology reaches mass market. Speaking to Business Insider in an interview, Zuckerberg offered up an estimation for the technology.
According to him, “I honestly don’t know how long it will take. It could be five years, it could be 10 years, it could be 15 or 20. My guess is that it will be at least 10.” Now 10 years is obviously a long time, so it looks like Facebook knew they were in for the long haul when they acquired Oculus VR back in 2014.
We’re sure many are hoping that the technology will become popular a lot faster, and if the rumors that Google and Apple are apparently becoming more invested in the technology are true, it could certainly help speed things up a bit, but what say you? Do you think it will take VR 10 years to reach mass market potential?
