Of course, when you have expensive SUV rides that are very, very close to the weight limit, and when you add in the weight of the passengers and stuff that those rides carry, it will obviously pass the legal weight limit. The new Tesla Model X happens to come with a curb weight that is less than 6,000 pounds, but has an actual GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of 6,768 pounds.
However, this is considered to be a feature since vehicles that are more than 6,000 pounds or three tons happen to be considered as work vehicles, and not cars, which would disqualify them for the $25,000 tax credit. Still, it does look like life will still go on as usual, but it is an interesting bit of trivia to know.
