According to an investor’s note obtained by Business Insider, analysts Blayne Curtis and Christopher Hemmelgarn have speculated that Apple will not be bundling wireless headphones with the iPhone 7. Apparently this has to do with wireless headphones potentially costing more, and also because they haven’t secured the right to use Cirrus’ noise-cancelling technology that would have found its way to the headphones.
“Recent speculation surrounding the elimination of the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 is consistent with this move as Apple will need to provide a digital headset inbox but likely was not willing to spend the extra cost for the ANC functionality.” They also add that while it might not be bundled with the iPhone 7, it could find its way to the iPhone 7s.
“We still believe there is potential for Apple to add ANC in the iPhone 7s but believe Apple is including just the digital headphone in the iPhone 7 this year.” Needless to say you should probably take this rumor with a grain of salt for now, but don’t be surprised if you find that this year’s bundled headphones are of the Lightning wired variety, not wireless.
