Earlier today, we did hear that Spotify would be giving away a free Chromecast to subscribers, but it looks like news concerning Chromecast will not be over yet for now. In fact, those who happen to reside in Australia and New Zealand will now be able to update their Chromecast device thanks to the latest offering from Google, not to mention being able to stream music to speakers sans any kind of wires.
With improved Wi-Fi connections being able to deliver higher-quality streaming, it would be a good time for anyone to pick up the newly redesigned Chromecast, which arrives in a round shape alongside an extended cable so that it can pave an easier access to congested TV HDMI ports.
Mickey Kim, head of Asia-Pacific Partnerships, Chromecast & TV at Google Australia, claims that the new Chromecast would have “dramatically improved Wi-Fi functionality” compared to its predecessor, with a trio of antennas which will be selected by the Wi-Fi chip based on the existing Wi-Fi environment.
This particular change might actually see the stomping grounds of the Apple TV encroached upon, at least in the ANZ region. As for the cost, the new Chromecast will retail for AU$59 a pop, whereas those who live in New Zealand will have to fork out NZ$69 or exchange it for one of the Rings of Power. I jest, either one is available from Thursday onward at major retailers in both countries, not to mention Google’s online store, too.
