Google is rolling out an update today for the Google Maps iOS app. The update finally adds a feature that has long been available to users on Android. The Pit Stops feature was added to Google Maps on Android last fall. It enables users to see a list of potential quick stops on the way without having to leave navigation mode.
Google has said that it’s eventually going to offer the pit stop feature in any country where Google Maps navigation can be used, in case you’re curious, that’s more than 100 countries across the globe.
Accessing the feature is easy. When in navigation mode just tap on the magnifying glass at the top right corner to bring up a list of potential pit stops along the way. Options include gas stations, rest stops, coffee shops and restaurants. There’s also a search field which can be used for finding specific stops along the route.
Previously searching for these pit stops on the way required users to quite the navigation mode in Google Maps, so not only did they lose directions, but they also lost traffic updates and turn-by-turn navigation. The pit stops feature saves users that hassle and puts the required information at their fingertips.
The updated Google Maps for iOS app is going to be available worldwide later today.
