However it seems that Google Compare did not catch on, so much so that a report from Search Engine Land (via 9to5Google) has revealed that the service will be shutting down on the 23rd of March. Google is also expected to begin winding down the service on the 23rd of February and this will apply to both the US and UK markets in which the feature is available in.
According to an email Google sent to its Compare partners, “Despite people turning to Google for financial services information, the Google Compare service itself hasn’t driven the success we hoped for. We greatly appreciate your partnership and understand that this decision will be disappointing to some. But after a lot of careful consideration, we’ve decided that focusing more intently on AdWords and future innovations will enable us to provide fresh, comprehensive answers to Google users, and to provide our financial services partners with the best return on investment.”
So if you do use the service frequently, come 23rd March you will no longer be able to do so, so maybe it’s time to start looking out for alternatives.
