Last year Fujifilm rolled out the 4.20 firmware to its X-T1 cameras. This is normally good news since updates are usually about bug fixes, improvements, and new features. However this wasn’t the case with the 4.20 update. Instead it seems that the update proved to be buggy enough for Fujifilm to pull it.
Now according to Fujifilm at that time, the newer update with the fix was supposed to arrive by the end of January, 2016, but given that we’re already in February, what gives? Turns out that the update has since been delayed because according to a post on Fujifilm’s website (via Fuji Rumors), the update is now scheduled for a 4th of February release.
We guess this isn’t that big of a delay since the 4th of February is this coming Thursday, so all we have to do is wait for a few more days and we should be able to get our hands on it. For those wondering what the issue was, turns out that the 4.20 update caused the camera to freeze up when shooting in AF-C mode.
Fujifilm noted that the occurrence was very rare, but apparently they decided that the chance that it could happen was enough for them to recall the update anyway, which we guess is good news for photographers who have yet to update. In the meantime there is a 4.21 update which is basically a rollback to the previous version, so if you did update, maybe you should consider getting 4.21 just to be safe, at least until the next update is released.
