The handset is dubbed the Freedom 251 and here are the specs that you can get for $4. The phone will feature a 4-inch display with a resolution of 960×540. Under the hood, a quad-core processor can be found clocked at 1.3GHz with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded thanks to a built-in microSD card slot.
In the camera department, the handset will pack a 3.2MP rear-facing camera, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, and a 1,450mAh battery, which we can only imagine should last you a while given that the phone isn’t particularly powerful. Last we heard, the company was supposedly being backed by the Indian government and will be putting the phone up for sale on the 18th of February, where it is expected to begin shipping by the end of June.
That being said, we should point out some discrepancies. The handset pictured on its website has been noted to look very different from what’s been published in the papers. As noted by The Next Web, the photo online seems to resemble the company’s $45 handset, the Smart 101.
