Millions of people will be going to the movies this weekend as the much-awaited film Deadpool finally opens. There has been a lot of excitement and hype surrounding this film and for good reason, fans will certainly be happy to find out that even though the first film hasn’t even opened yet, the sequel has already been greenlighted.
The Hollywood Reporter has heard from insiders that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first film, are now penning the script for Deadpool 2. The studio has reportedly greenlighted the sequel already.
It’s really not surprising to find out that the sequel is already in the works. Deadpool is expected to open to at least $65 million over the coming four-day holiday weekend while some liberal estimates expect that the film will rake in as much as $70 on its opening weekend.
Tim Miller, the man who directed Deadpool, has reportedly not signed on for the sequel as yet but it’s said that the studio wants to keep the creative team together so it’s likely that they’ll try to get him to direct the sequel as well.
There’s obviously no expected release date yet for the sequel since work on the script is said to have begun right now. Production will be a mammoth undertaking in itself so it may take a year or more for Deadpool 2 to hit the big screen.
