There are many parts of the world where handsets like the iPhone are considered way, way out of reach for the masses. So while companies like Apple might not necessarily thrive in such markets, there are plenty of brands focused on affordability that might. In fact recently it was announced that one Indian smartphone brand will be launching a device that is priced at $7.
The company in question is called Ringing Bells. They are an Indian company and in the past, they have released affordable devices like one that is priced at Rs. 2,999, which when converted is about $43. However it seems that the company has a new phone called the Freedom 251 which will be priced at Rs. 500, which is about $7 after conversion.
Unfortunately the specs of the Freedom 251 is unknown at this point in time, but presumably with a price tag like that, don’t expect the specs of the phone to blow you away. Instead what we can expect is a phone that will be good enough to get the job done. The handset is supposedly being backed by the Indian government who has shown them immense support.
In any case more details about the device will be announced on the 17th of February, so do check back with us then to see what kind of smartphone one can get with $7. With a price like that, it really makes phones put out by Xiaomi and Huawei seem downright expensive, doesn’t it?
